OSTAR Race Tracker
During the Original Single-handed Trans Atlantic Race, Dinah was fitted with a GPS transmitter which recorded her Latitude and Longitude as she makes her way west.
You can follow her progress on this page from when the race began on 25 May.
Trackers have added real excitement to offshore sailing, allowing it to become a real spectator sport as those on shore can follow the trials and tribulations of every boat – as this extract from October’s Seahorse magazine explains:
“For the armchair yachtsman the RORC/OC tracker has brought offshore racing to life…For last year’s Rolex Fastnet Race each each of the 300 boats was fitted with a tracker and interest in the race through the tracker website was stunning. Today more and more race organisers are seeing the advantage of having trackers to attract a wider audience. The BMW Round Ireland Race and the Baltic Sprint Cup were two of the events which used our trackers [in 2008] and for the Rolex Commodore’s Cup every yacht was fitted with a tracker for the offshore races, when again thousands accessed the website to follow progress…I feel I can become an armchair participant …”
